Description
Viridal is a treatment used for erectile dysfunction, particularly in cases where oral medications may not be effective or suitable. It contains alprostadil, a synthetic version of a naturally occurring substance that helps increase blood flow to the penis. By causing local blood vessels to widen, it supports the physical process that leads to an erection.
Viridal is administered by injection into the corpus cavernosum. This method allows the medication to act directly at the site where it is needed. In most cases, the effect begins within 5 to 15 minutes, and the resulting erection typically lasts around 30 to 60 minutes, though this can vary between individuals.
The medication comes as a powder that is mixed with a sterile solution before use. A fine needle is used for the injection, and it is important to alternate the site with each use to reduce the risk of tissue damage. Dosage is usually adjusted according to the individual’s response and tolerability.
Viridal may be used by individuals with various underlying causes of erectile dysfunction, including vascular, neurological, or post-surgical conditions. Common side effects may include mild discomfort at the injection site or a feeling of pressure in the penis. In some cases, users may experience prolonged erections or localized fibrosis or penile nodules, which should be evaluated if persistent.
General Information
Viridal Duo contains alprostadil, a synthetic version of prostaglandin E1 supplied in a dual-chamber syringe for intracavernosal injection. It helps men achieve and maintain an erection.
It treats erectile dysfunction (impotence) of vascular, psychogenic, neurogenic, or mixed origin when tablets such as sildenafil are unsuitable or ineffective. It may also be used during diagnostic penile Doppler tests.
Alprostadil relaxes smooth muscle and dilates penile blood vessels, increasing blood flow to the corpora cavernosa, producing an erection within minutes.
Dosing is highly individual. Treatment starts with 2.5-10 µg injected into the side of the penis, titrated up to a maximum of 40 µg. You must wait at least 24 hours between injections and never inject more than 3 times per week.
An erection typically develops within 5-15 minutes and lasts 30-60 minutes.
Viridal is used when needed, so an omitted dose simply means no injection. Never inject more frequently than advised.
Safety & Side Effects
- Common: mild penile pain, bruising at injection site, small haemorrhage, or transient dizziness.
- Occasional: prolonged erection, scarring (fibrosis), or curvature.
- Rare but serious: priapism requiring urgent intervention or systemic allergic reaction. Tell your doctor if you notice nodules, increasing curvature, or recurrent erections lasting >2 hours.
Hypersensitivity is rare but possible. Stop treatment if you develop rash, swelling, or breathing difficulty.
Combining with oral PDE-5 inhibitors or other vasoactive agents can increase the risk of priapism and hypotension. Always inform your doctor about blood-pressure medicines or anticoagulants.
Not applicable-Viridal is for male use only.
Dizziness is uncommon but may occur. Avoid driving until you know your response.
Excess alcohol may impair erectile response and raise dizziness risk.
Usage & Administration
Wash hands, assemble the syringe, inject into the lateral corpus cavernosum at 10-2 or 2-10 o’clock positions, alternating sides. Apply gentle pressure afterwards. Only use the supplied needles; never share syringes.
Store unopened kits in a refrigerator (2-8°C). Use immediately after mixing and discard leftovers.
Excess dose can cause prolonged erection (priapism) lasting >4 hours, pain, or penile fibrosis. Seek emergency help if an erection lasts longer than 2 hours.
Regular follow-ups are essential to check for penile fibrosis or curvature.
Do not use Viridal if you have sickle-cell anaemia, leukaemia, multiple myeloma, penile implants, an anatomical deformity (severe curvature), or a predisposition to priapism. It is not indicated for women or children.
